Celebrating Progress: A Non-Expert’s Journey in SEO Success and Gratitude

Five months ago, I shared my experiences as a non-professional diving into the world of SEO, and the supportive feedback I received truly inspired me. Today, I want to provide an update on my journey, share the results, and express my heartfelt thanks to this incredible community.

From Word-of-Mouth to Digital Discovery

I own a video production company based in Boston. In our early years, most of our clientele came through word-of-mouth recommendations, which felt like a comfortable, steady stream of business. However, over the past year, I decided to embrace SEO more intentionally, dedicating around two hours daily to improving our online presence. My initial focus was simple: publishing a few blog posts weekly, optimizing our website’s structure, and learning new skills along the way.

The Results Speak for Themselves

Back in January, I was proud to see increased traffic to our website and hoped this momentum would translate into more booked jobs. Thanks in large part to the valuable advice from this community, our efforts paid off. Over the past month alone, we’ve received over 21 website form submissions and booked more than 10 projects through Google inquiries. These tangible results have been incredibly motivating.

Key Strategies Implemented

Here’s an overview of the SEO activities I’ve been working on over the last year:

  • Content Creation: Regularly publishing blog posts that attract attention on Google.
  • Service Pages: Developing dedicated pages for each of our offerings to improve relevance and ranking.
  • Data Analysis: Utilizing Google Search Console and GA4 to identify what’s working and refine our strategies.
  • Technical Optimization: Addressing issues within our Squarespace website to improve site health and performance.
  • Structured Data: Learning how to write and implement schema markup, with the assistance of ChatGPT to generate code, which I then test using Google Rich Results tools.
  • Internal Linking: Increasing site navigation and link equity through strategic internal links.
  • Customer Engagement: Encouraging every client to leave Google reviews, boosting our local credibility.
  • Networking & Backlinks: Reaching out to other video production companies nationwide for potential collaborations and backlink opportunities—although I’ll admit backlink strategies remain an area I’m still learning.
  • Google My Business Updates: Regularly updating our profile with posts, photos, and relevant information to stay active and visible.

Looking Ahead

I’ve attached some data snapshots from the past 16 months in the comments below. Now, I am focusing on improving my click-through rate (CTR) and continuing to refine our online presence.

A Heartfelt Thank You

I want to sincerely thank everyone in this community for your support, advice, and encouragement. Your insights have made a significant impact on our growth, and I truly appreciate the collaborative spirit here. If you’re starting from scratch or just looking to improve your SEO, remember that progress is possible—even without being an expert. Keep learning, experimenting, and supporting each other.

Thanks again, everyone! Your kindness and knowledge mean the world to me.
